How Blaenau Gwent Leg Club started
The founder of the club was Christine Rees who was a district nurse in Blaenau Gwent, she became interested in the treatment of Leg Ulcers. This lead to the Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust releasing Christine from her work load to set up the Blaenau Gwent Wound Service with the assistance of two colleagues, Janine Dobbs and Jan Watkins.
Christine heard about the Lindsay Leg Club
Foundation and after a visit by the founder
Ellie Lindsay in June 2005 to speak to the team
and other interested parties the vision of the
Leg Club was born in Wales.
With the help of G.A.V.O. (Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations) the club came into existence in November 2005 when our local
M.P. Rt Hon Peter Law officially opened the doors to the club.
Blaenau Gwent Club is run in a non-medical based community setting held ever Thursday at the O.A.P.Hall Raglan Terr Beaufort Ebbw Vale. 10 am - 2 pm. Members are treated collectively in a social and friendly atmosphere. It operates on a drop in basis ( No Appointments Required) and incorporates a “Well Leg Regime”.
As the club is a voluntary organisation funds are raised by the members to pay for all the equipment and running costs by weekly raffles,
refreshments, boot sales, donations and grants from other organisations. The District Nursing Staff are provided by the Aneriun Bevan HNS Trust but all other facilities and equipment is provided by the Club and paid for by the members
