History of Blaenau Gwent Leg Club

The founder of Blaenau Gwent Leg Club was Christine Rees who was a district nurse in Blaenau Gwent, who became interested in the treatment of leg ulcers.  This lead to the Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust releasing Christine from her work load to set up the Blaenau Gwent Wound Service with the help and assistance of two colleagues Janine Dobbs and Jan Watkins.
Christine heard about the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation and after a visit by the founder Ellie Lindsay in June 2005 to speak to the team and other interested parties the vision of the Leg Club was born in this area.
With the help of G.A.V.O. (Gwent Association of Voluntary organisations) the club came into existence in November 2005 when our local MP Mr Peter Law officially opened the doors to the club.
Blaenau Gwent Leg Club is run in a non-medical based community setting, where members are treated collectively in a social and friendly atmosphere.  It operates on a drop in basis (No Appointments Required) and incorporates a “Well Leg” regime.
Funds for the running costs are raised by the members by holding weekly raffles, refreshments, boot sales, donations and via grants from other organisations.  The District Nursing Staff are provided by the Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust but all the equipment etc is paid for by the members.
The services of a Chiropodist is available once a month for members and non-members alike, just drop in, there might be a short wait for treatment but refreshments are available for a small charge which goes towards our costs. It will also give you a chance to meet and great new and old friends
